Following a statewide Quiz Bowl victory, honors students from the Ï㽶ӰÊÓ are preparing for regional competition that will be held at Ï㽶ӰÊÓ Saturday.

In Quiz Bowl contests, teams of four students answer general knowledge questions during timed rounds. For the third year in a row, a Ï㽶ӰÊÓ team is the best in the state.

Teams from five other schools participated in the contest: Delgado Community College, Ï㽶ӰÊÓ State University in Shreveport, Nicholls State University, ULM and the University of New Orleans. Ï㽶ӰÊÓ received a first-round bye and then went undefeated through the brackets.

The Ï㽶ӰÊÓ team members who claimed the state trophy were Tyler Quebedeaux, a junior majoring in political science; Thomas Credeur, a senior majoring in mathematics; Zach Comeaux, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; and Dominic Lloyd, a freshman majoring in finance.

They defended their title in a competition held in conjunction with the Ï㽶ӰÊÓ Collegiate Honors Conference. The event was held at the University of Ï㽶ӰÊÓ at Monroe March 14 and 15.

Dr. Julia Frederick, director of the Ï㽶ӰÊÓ Honors Program, said the team members have a strong work ethic. "They practice hard every week. They read, test each other, explore things they don't know well and study questions from past meets," she said.

Eight other Ï㽶ӰÊÓ students participate in Quiz Bowl activities. Four compete as a team: Kristopher Meche, a sophomore majoring in mechanical engineering; Aurore Hamilton, a junior majoring in political science; Henry Robillard, a sophomore majoring in psychology; and Joshua Lovera, a sophomore majoring in biology. Four others play recreationally at team meetings: Khang Mai, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; Jorge Belgodere, a senior majoring in chemical engineering; James Mallory, a junior majoring in computer engineering; and William Benezech, a freshman majoring in physics.

On Saturday, Ï㽶ӰÊÓ will host a regional competition that includes Ï㽶ӰÊÓ Technical University, Rice University, Tulane University and Texas A&M University.
